My Own Little Creations

I've recently been working on making a few items of clothing for my Textiles project (based on Paris) at college - I've done a few screen printed tee and polo shirts, made a pair of navy blue harem pants and will be working on making some gradient tights. I'll put all the photos up when I've done the shoot - I'm excited to have this project finished with!

I haven't posted lately because unfortunately for me my laptop is broken and currently in laptop hospital recuperating - and it has all of my images on it. This is the only picture I have of anything I've done for the project:

Topshop

Gosh, I really do love Topshop. It seems, as I've grown up, Topshop has grown up alongside me and is now a fully fledged fashionista shop. I've been called a fashionista lately, because I comment constantly on items in shops and who's copying who and where they got it from. I really do take pleasure in knowing these things.

Knowledge aside, Topshop is excellent, nice clothes at nice prices, for want of a better description. I went to one on Wednesday and bought the following items:

This dress:

These navy tights:

And these skinny smart trousers:

I'll pair the dress with a navy cardigan and blue pumps, the tights can be useful to many of my outfits - I do own navy tights but they're textured, and can make my legs look larger. The trousers open up many possibilities for me, as someone who generally looks more 'dressed up' than 'smart'. I'll put them with a white or black polo neck jumper and beads; or as the Topshop website suggested, a white T shirt. I have one which came free in a goody bag at the Clothes Show Live in December which will be perfect.

Still failing on the 'french black' front! I really need to address that...

Lack of Black

Having spent the weekend in Paris (a brief family orientated visit) I have noticed one integral difference between the clothing of English women and French women: Black. French women seem to wear a lot of black, and they manage to do it extremely tastefully (considering that the most black I see around here is on Goths and Emos). It gives them an air of mystery, a 'je ne sais quoi', which is something I think that we English, as a whole, lack. I've realised I have an extreme lack of black in my wardrobe, and on a day to day basis I almost never wear any black.

This is not just some random idea - even the English and French issues of Vogue reflect this difference: the March edition of English Vogue I picked up has a primarily light and white theme to it, the font on the cover is white, the model is wearing white - whereas the February edition of French Vogue I bought is primarily dark, with black font on the cover, and the model is wearing black.

So, I vow now that I will try to wear more black, and purchase some more black items to feed my starved wardrobe. Watch this space!

Navy and Red: My new Black and White

I love navy, and I love red. And they look so wonderful together. Better than black and white, to my mind. I need to buy March's Vogue, so I can catch up on things - also, I'm visiting Paris briefly this weekend to see family, I'll try and grab a copy of French Vogue, for comparison.

Blues and Greens

I decided to look presentable for my trip to A&E today - and my ankle isn't broken thankfully. Here's a picture of my new clothes (which I bought from an independent clothing store) worn with spotted tights and brown ugg boots.

Colour Blocking

Gosh, I do love colour blocking. Gucci's in particular - the way reds and blues are put together in their Spring/Summer '09 collection is excellent, I plan to emulate it very soon. I would be doing it right now but my ankle is probably broken so I'm not supposed to move a great deal... really frustrating for me. When I am up and about I plan to put my reds and blues together.

Today (pre ankle-crunch) I bought a green sweater-dress, a blue cardigan with bead buttons and a navy pashmina, I can't wait to start trying things out with them. It sucks not being able to walk around!
